Description

This Sweet Chili Pineapple Sauce is a vibrant and tangy condiment perfect for adding a burst of flavor to grilled meats, seafood, or vegetables. Featuring fresh pineapple, a touch of honey, soy sauce, and spicy red chili flakes, this sauce balances sweet, savory, and spicy notes with a luscious, thickened texture.

Ingredients

Scale

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh pineapple, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste

Thickening Agent

  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water (for cornstarch slurry)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, add the finely chopped fresh pineapple, 1/2 cup water, white vinegar, honey, soy sauce, minced ginger, and minced garlic. Stir to mix all ingredients thoroughly.
  2. Simmer the Sauce: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 10 minutes, allowing the pineapple to soften and the flavors to meld.
  3. Prepare Cornstarch Slurry: While the mixture simmers, combine 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl, stirring until smooth and without lumps.
  4. Thicken the Sauce: Stir the cornstarch slurry into the simmering pineapple sauce. Add the red chili flakes and salt to taste. Continue to simmer for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens to a glossy and slightly thick consistency.
  5. Cool and Serve: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool. It will thicken further as it cools. Serve as a dipping sauce or glaze with your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of red chili flakes according to your desired spice level.
  • Use fresh pineapple for the best flavor, but canned pineapple in juice can be used in a pinch.
  • This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • For a smoother texture, you may blend the sauce after cooking if desired.
  • Great as a condiment for grilled chicken, fish, shrimp, or even as a dipping sauce for appetizers.
