Description

This refreshing Strawberry Agua Fresca is a light, naturally sweetened beverage made with fresh strawberries, lime juice, and water. Perfect for cooling down on warm days, it combines the natural sweetness of berries with a hint of citrus and a subtle mint garnish for extra freshness.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruits

  • 1 lb. fresh strawberries, hulled and halved

Liquids & Sweeteners

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. fresh lime juice (from 1 lime)
  • 4 cups water

Others

  • Ice
  • Mint sprigs, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Macerate the Strawberries: Add the hulled and halved strawberries along with the granulated sugar into a bowl. Toss them together and let the mixture sit at room temperature for about one hour, tossing occasionally. This process softens the berries and helps release their natural juices.
  2. Blend the Mixture: Transfer the strawberry and sugar mixture into a blender or food processor. Add the fresh lime juice and blend on high speed until smooth, which should take about 1 to 2 minutes.
  3. Strain the Puree: Place a fine mesh strainer over a large pitcher. Pour the blended strawberry mixture into the strainer and use a spoon to stir and press the liquid through, discarding any seeds or solids left behind.
  4. Add Water and Adjust Sweetness: Pour 4 cups of water into the pitcher with the strained strawberry juice. Stir well and taste the agua fresca. If you prefer it sweeter, feel free to add more sugar and stir until dissolved.
  5. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the mixture until thoroughly chilled, which will take about 2 hours. Serve the Strawberry Agua Fresca over ice and garnish each glass with a fresh mint sprig for a lovely aroma and presentation.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, reduce the sugar or substitute with a natural sweetener like honey or agave syrup.
  • To make this recipe vegan and vegetarian, ensure the sugar used is bone-char-free.
  • If fresh strawberries are not in season, frozen strawberries may be used but should be thawed first.
  • This beverage is best consumed fresh within 2 days for optimal flavor.
