Ingredients
Scale
Sloppy Joe Mixture
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Other Ingredients
- 1 (8-ounce) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
- Cook Beef and Onion: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is browned and the onion softens, about 6 to 8 minutes. Drain any excess grease to keep the bake from becoming too oily.
- Add Garlic and Sauce Ingredients: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Then mix in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients and let it simmer for 2 to 3 minutes to thicken slightly.
- Prepare Crescent Roll Crust: Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, stretching gently up the sides to form a crust that will hold the filling.
- Assemble the Bake: Spoon the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the crescent roll crust. Then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously on top to create a cheesy finish.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bake to cool for about 5 minutes to set before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired for an added touch of color and freshness.
Notes
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
- Add chopped bell peppers or mushrooms to the beef mixture for extra vegetables and texture.
- Serve with a side salad or pickles to complete the meal.
