Description
This Sautéed Zucchini recipe is a simple, quick, and delicious way to prepare tender zucchini with garlic and butter. Perfect as a nutritious side dish, the zucchini is sliced and cooked in a skillet over medium heat until tender and lightly browned, then seasoned with salt and pepper for a flavorful finish.
Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 ¼ – 1 ½ lbs. medium zucchini (about 3 medium)
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 2 cloves garlic (finely minced)
- ¾ – 1 tsp. salt (to taste)
- ¼ tsp. black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Prepare Zucchini: Trim the ends from the zucchini squash, then cut each zucchini in half lengthwise. Slice the zucchini halves into ¼-½ inch thick pieces for even cooking.
- Melt Butter: Place a large skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Allow it to melt completely and spread evenly across the skillet’s surface to prevent sticking.
- Cook Zucchini: Arrange the zucchini slices in a single layer in the skillet. Let them cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes to develop a slight browning on one side, then flip the slices and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until they are almost tender.
- Sauté Garlic and Season: In the last 30 seconds of cooking, add the finely minced garlic directly to the skillet. Sauté briefly until the garlic becomes fragrant. Immediately season the zucchini with salt and black pepper to taste and serve hot.
Notes
- For more flavor, consider adding freshly chopped herbs like parsley or basil just before serving.
- Use olive oil instead of butter for a dairy-free version.
- Cook zucchini in batches if your skillet is small to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
- Do not overcook zucchini to avoid a mushy texture; it should retain a slight bite.
