Description

Sautéed Mushrooms are a quick and flavorful side dish featuring tender, golden brown mushrooms cooked in butter and olive oil with garlic and thyme. Perfectly seasoned and optionally enhanced with soy sauce or balsamic vinegar, this easy recipe complements steak, chicken, pasta, or toast.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 1 pound cremini or white button mushrooms, sliced

Fats & Oils

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Herbs & Seasonings

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves or 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Optional Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or balsamic vinegar
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the fats: Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until the butter is melted and sizzling.
  2. Cook mushrooms to brown: Add the sliced mushrooms in a single layer. Let them cook undisturbed for 3 to 4 minutes to develop a golden brown color on one side.
  3. Continue sautéing: Stir the mushrooms and cook for an additional 5 to 6 minutes until they are tender and golden brown all over.
  4. Add garlic and thyme: Add the minced garlic and thyme, then sauté for another minute until the garlic becomes fragrant.
  5. Season and enhance flavor: Season with salt and black pepper to taste. For extra depth, stir in soy sauce or a splash of balsamic vinegar if using.
  6. Finish and serve: Remove from heat, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve immediately as a side dish.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary to prevent steaming and ensure proper browning.
  • These sautéed mushrooms pair excellently with steak, chicken, pasta, or as a topping for toast or burgers.
