Description

This Quick Beef Stir-Fry is a delicious and speedy Asian-inspired main course featuring tender flank steak marinated in a savory blend of soy, oyster, and hoisin sauces. Tossed with crisp bell peppers, onions, garlic, and ginger, and finished with a sprinkle of fresh green onions, it’s perfect served over rice for a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Marinade

  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Vegetables

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

For Serving

  • Cooked rice

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced flank steak with soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch until evenly coated. Allow the beef to marinate for 10–15 minutes to absorb the flavors while you prepare the vegetables.
  2. Heat the Pan and Sear Beef: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Once hot, add the beef in a single layer and sear it for 2–3 minutes until browned on the outside. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside to prevent overcooking.
  3. Cook the Vegetables: In the same pan, add the sliced red and green bell peppers along with the onion. Stir-fry them for 2–3 minutes until they start to become tender but still retain some crunch. Then, add the minced garlic and grated fresh ginger, cooking for an additional 30 seconds to release their aroma.
  4. Combine Beef and Vegetables: Return the seared beef to the pan with the vegetables. Toss everything together and stir-fry for 1–2 minutes more until the beef is heated through and the flavors meld together.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle sliced green onions over the stir-fry for a fresh finish. Serve the hot beef stir-fry immediately over cooked rice for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Feel free to substitute the bell peppers with broccoli, snap peas, or mushrooms for variety.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha to introduce some heat.
  • This stir-fry recipe works well with chicken or tofu as alternative protein options.
