For the Pineapple Habanero Hot Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups fresh pineapple chunks
- 4–5 habanero peppers, stemmed and seeded (leave some seeds for extra heat if desired)
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
Instructions
- Heat olive oil: In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil. Sauté onion and garlic until softened and fragrant.
- Add pineapple and habanero: Stir in pineapple chunks and habanero peppers; cook for 5 minutes.
- Add remaining ingredients: Pour in vinegar, lime juice, honey, salt, and cumin. Simmer for 10 minutes until pineapple is tender.
- Blend: Remove from heat, cool slightly, then blend until smooth. Transfer to containers and refrigerate for 24 hours before using.
Notes
- Wear gloves when handling habaneros to avoid skin irritation.
- For a smokier flavor, roast the peppers before blending.
- This sauce keeps in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
