Description

Philly Steak Cheese Fries are a deliciously indulgent appetizer featuring crispy baked French fries topped with sautéed ribeye steak, onions, and bell peppers, all melted under a blend of provolone and mozzarella cheeses. Perfect for game day or a flavorful snack, these loaded fries combine tender steak with gooey cheese and vibrant veggies for a satisfying treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Fries

  • 1 (26 oz) bag frozen French fries

Steak and Vegetables

  • 1 lb thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced

Cheese

  • 1 cup shredded provolone cheese
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Seasoning & Optional

  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: cheese sauce or sliced mushrooms

Instructions

  1. Bake the French Fries: Preheat your oven and bake the frozen French fries according to the package directions until they are golden and crispy, typically about 20-25 minutes.
  2. Sauté Onions and Bell Peppers: While the fries bake, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and green bell peppers and sauté for 4-5 minutes until the vegetables soften and begin to caramelize.
  3. Cook the Steak: Push the cooked vegetables to one side of the skillet and add the thinly sliced ribeye or sirloin steak to the other side. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally until the steak is browned and cooked through. Season the mixture with salt and black pepper to your taste.
  4. Assemble the Fries: Once the fries are done baking, transfer them onto an oven-safe platter or baking sheet. Evenly distribute the steak and vegetable mixture over the fries.
  5. Add Cheese and Melt: Sprinkle the shredded provolone and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the steak and veggies. Return the platter to the oven and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese melts and becomes bubbly.
  6. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve hot. Optionally, drizzle with cheese sauce or top with sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor and richness.

Notes

  • For extra indulgence, serve with a side of ranch dressing or garlic aioli.
  • Try using waffle fries or curly fries for a fun variation.
  • Swap in cheese whiz for a more authentic Philly cheese steak flavor.
  • Ensure the French fries are gluten-free if adhering to a gluten-free diet.
