Ingredients
Scale
Crust
- 1 box (15.25 ounces) yellow cake mix
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
Filling
- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Make the Crust: In a large bowl, combine the yellow cake mix with the melted butter and one egg. Mix thoroughly until a thick dough forms. Press this dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to create the crust layer.
- Prepare the Filling: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Add the two eggs, vanilla extract, and melted butter, mixing until well combined. Gradually add the powdered sugar while continuing to mix until the filling is smooth and luscious.
- Assemble and Bake: Pour the cream cheese filling evenly over the crust in the baking dish. Spread with a spatula to create an even layer. Bake in the preheated oven for 40–45 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown and the center remains slightly soft and gooey.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan so it sets properly. Once cooled, slice into 16 bars. Serve plain or dust with additional powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness.
Notes
- Do not overbake—the center should still jiggle slightly when removed from the oven to maintain its gooey texture.
- For variety, experiment with different cake mix flavors such as lemon or chocolate for a delicious twist.
- This cake tastes best after cooling completely but can be enjoyed slightly warm if preferred.
