Description

A quick and simple recipe for perfectly cooked, fluffy basmati rice using an Instant Pot. This method ensures each grain is separate and tender, making it an ideal side for a variety of dishes.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 1 ¼ cups water
  • 1 Tbsp. butter (optional)
  • ½ tsp. salt (plus more to taste)

Instructions

  1. Rinse the Rice: Place rice in a fine mesh strainer and rinse under cold water for 1 minute or until the water runs clear to remove excess starch and prevent clumping.
  2. Combine Ingredients in Instant Pot: Add the rinsed rice, water, butter or oil if using, and salt into a 6-quart Instant Pot.
  3. Set Pressure Cooking: Secure the Instant Pot lid and set the pressure release valve to the sealed position. Select the pressure cook or manual setting and set the timer to 6 minutes at high pressure. Note that it will take approximately 5-10 minutes for the Instant Pot to reach full pressure.
  4. Natural Pressure Release: After the cooking time is complete, let the Instant Pot release pressure naturally for 10 minutes. Then carefully move the valve to venting to release any remaining steam. Open the lid once the float valve drops down.
  5. Fluff and Serve: Use a fork to gently fluff the rice to separate the grains. Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Rinsing the rice thoroughly removes excess surface starch and helps achieve fluffy rice.
  • Adding butter or oil enhances flavor but is optional.
  • Adjust salt quantity to taste or dietary preference.
  • For best results, use a 6-quart or larger Instant Pot to avoid overflow.
  • Allowing natural pressure release helps finish cooking the rice gently without drying it out.
