Description

Homemade Pizza Rolls are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer featuring soft pizza dough filled with classic pizza sauce, gooey mozzarella cheese, and pepperoni, all rolled up and baked to golden perfection. Perfect as party snacks or a fun family treat, these rolls offer a comforting blend of Italian-inspired flavors with a convenient handheld twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Pizza Dough

  • 1 can refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade)

Filling

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup mini pepperoni or chopped regular pepperoni
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Topping & Finishing

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for brushing)
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese
  • Optional: red pepper flakes
  • Optional: fresh basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle approximately 10 by 14 inches. This will serve as the base for your pizza rolls.
  3. Add Sauce: Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough, making sure to leave a small border around the edges so the sauce doesn’t spill out during rolling.
  4. Layer Fillings: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce, followed by mini or chopped pepperoni. Then, season with Italian seasoning and garlic powder for added flavor.
  5. Roll Dough: Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log shape, ensuring the filling stays inside.
  6. Slice Rolls: Using a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss, slice the log into 1-inch thick rolls to create individual pizza bites.
  7. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the pizza rolls cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart to allow room for expansion while baking.
  8. Brush with Olive Oil: Brush the tops of the rolls with olive oil for a golden crust and optionally sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese or red pepper flakes for extra flavor and texture.
  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and melted.
  10. Cool and Garnish: Let the rolls cool slightly after baking, then garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve warm with extra pizza sauce for dipping and enjoy!

Notes

  • Customize the filling by adding cooked sausage, vegetables, or using different types of cheese to suit your taste.
  • These pizza rolls freeze well both before and after baking. Reheat in the oven or air fryer until hot for a quick snack.
