Description

This Homemade Cold Brew Coffee recipe provides a simple way to make smooth, rich, and refreshing cold brew coffee concentrate at home with just two ingredients. Steeping coarse coffee grounds in cold water for 12 hours creates a less acidic, flavorful coffee concentrate perfect for serving over ice and customizing with milk or sweeteners.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1 cup medium to coarse ground coffee

Instructions

  1. Prepare the coffee and water: In a large bowl or jar, pour 4 cups of cold water. Sprinkle 1 cup of medium to coarse ground coffee evenly over the surface of the water. Let the coffee bloom on top for 30 to 60 seconds, then stir gently to combine the grounds and water.
  2. Steep in the refrigerator: Cover the bowl or jar with a lid or plastic wrap and transfer it to the refrigerator. Let the coffee steep for 12 to 14 hours to fully extract the flavors and create a smooth concentrate.
  3. Strain the cold brew: Layer cheesecloth into a mesh strainer and place it over a large bowl or jar. Pour the steeped coffee mixture through the cheesecloth-lined strainer to remove coffee grounds. For a smoother concentrate, strain the coffee a second time through fresh cheesecloth.
  4. Store and serve: Transfer the cold brew coffee concentrate into a covered container and keep it refrigerated. The concentrate will stay fresh for up to two weeks. To serve, pour the cold brew over ice and dilute with water, milk, or sweetener to taste according to your preferences.

Notes

  • Use medium to coarse coffee grounds to prevent over-extraction and bitterness.
  • Adjust steeping time between 12 to 14 hours depending on desired strength.
  • Straining twice ensures a smooth, grit-free cold brew.
  • Store concentrate in the refrigerator in a sealed container for freshness.
  • Customize your serving by mixing with milk, water, or flavored syrups.
