Ingredients
Scale
Cheese and Pastry
- 1 wheel of Brie cheese (approximately 8 ounces)
- 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
Jam and Coloring
- 1/4 cup raspberry jam or cranberry sauce
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring (optional, for extra blood effect)
Finishing and Serving
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- Crackers or sliced baguette, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the Brie wrapped in puff pastry.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Unroll the sheet of thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface to prevent sticking.
- Place Brie: Position the Brie wheel in the center of the puff pastry sheet, ready to be wrapped.
- Add Jam Mixture: Spread the raspberry jam or cranberry sauce evenly over the top surface of the Brie. Optionally, mix in the red food coloring with the jam for a more dramatic, bloody appearance.
- Wrap Brie: Fold the edges of the puff pastry up and over the Brie, completely enclosing the cheese. Press seams together firmly to seal the pastry.
- Prepare for Baking: Transfer the wrapped Brie carefully to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease clean-up.
- Egg Wash: Brush the entire surface of the puff pastry with the lightly beaten egg to ensure a rich golden color after baking.
- Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool Slightly: Remove from the oven and allow the baked Brie to cool for a few minutes. The cheese inside will be molten and very hot, so handle with care.
- Serve: Serve the baked Brie warm, accompanied by crackers or sliced baguette for dipping and spreading the melted cheese.
Notes
- Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed to prevent tearing while wrapping.
- Red food coloring is optional but adds a fun Halloween “bloody” effect to the jam topping.
- Allow the baked Brie to cool slightly before serving to avoid burns from molten cheese.
- Use a sharp knife to cut into the pastry when serving for clean slices.
- Substitute raspberry jam with other berry or fruit preserves if desired.
