Ingredients
Scale
Protein
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 12 ounces Kielbasa sausage, sliced into 1-inch pieces
Vegetables & Aromatics
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes (or tomato sauce)
Herbs & Spices
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
Liquids & Fats
- 1–2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 1/2 cups chicken broth (plus more as needed)
- 3/4 cup heavy cream (plus more as needed)
Pasta
- 10 ounces fettuccini (or other hearty pasta)
Garnish
- 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the sausage: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook for about 5 minutes until browned. Remove sausage from the skillet and set aside to keep warm.
- Cook the shrimp: In the same skillet, add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove shrimp and set aside with the sausage.
- Sauté garlic: Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant, taking care not to burn it.
- Add tomato paste: Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1-2 minutes to deepen its flavor and enhance the sauce.
- Combine tomatoes and herbs: Add crushed tomatoes along with dried rosemary, parsley, oregano, thyme, basil, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
- Simmer with broth: Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
- Cook pasta in sauce: Add the fettuccini to the skillet, pressing the pasta down into the liquid. Cover and cook for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add extra broth if needed to keep the pasta submerged and prevent sticking.
- Finish with cream and proteins: When pasta is nearly tender, stir in the heavy cream, cooked sausage, and shrimp. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through and the sauce turns creamy.
- Season and garnish: Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving for a pop of color and freshness.
Notes
- You can substitute Kielbasa with any pre-cooked smoked sausage.
- If you prefer a spicier kick, add crushed red pepper flakes along with the other spices.
- Keep an eye on the pasta while cooking to avoid overcooking or sticking; add more broth if the sauce thickens too much.
- For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or a plant-based cream alternative.
- Make sure shrimp is peeled and deveined before cooking for the best texture and flavor.
