Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Seasonings
- 1/2 pound chopped bacon
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon steak seasoning (e.g., McCormick)
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Cheese and Condiments
- 12 ounces Velveeta, cubed
- 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar jack cheese
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
Dough
- 1 (13.8 ounce) thin crust pizza dough (e.g., Pillsbury)
Instructions
- Cook Bacon and Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crisp. Remove and set aside. In the bacon fat, sauté the chopped onions until soft and translucent.
- Brown Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet with onions and cook until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat. Season the mixture with steak seasoning, salt, and pepper to taste, then stir in the cooked bacon.
- Prepare Dough: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the thin crust pizza dough onto a greased baking sheet, shaping it into a rectangle large enough to fold over the filling.
- Assemble Filling: Spread the cooked meat mixture evenly over half of the dough. Distribute cubed Velveeta and grated cheddar jack cheese on top of the meat evenly.
- Add Sauce and Fold Dough: Mix mayonnaise and ketchup together and drizzle lightly over the cheese layer. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press edges to seal tightly, creating a stuffed bread.
- Bake: Place the stuffed bread in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Slice and Serve: Remove from oven, allow to cool slightly, then slice into servings. Serve warm as a hearty snack or main dish.
Notes
- You can substitute Velveeta with cream cheese or mozzarella for different textures.
- Adding diced green chilies or jalapeños to the meat mixture can add a nice kick.
- Make sure to seal the dough edges well to prevent filling from leaking while baking.
- This recipe can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
- For a crispier crust, brush the dough with a little olive oil before baking.
