Description

This delightful Crookie recipe combines the flaky, buttery texture of puff pastry with the rich, gooey goodness of chocolate chip cookie dough. These individual croissant-shaped pastries are easy to prepare and bake into a golden, mouthwatering treat perfect for dessert or a special snack. Whether you use homemade or store-bought cookie dough, these chocolate-stuffed pastries bring a fun twist to traditional baked goods with a crispy exterior and warm, melty center.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry, thawed

Filling

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chip cookie dough (homemade or store-bought)

Egg Wash

  • 1 egg, beaten

Optional Toppings

  • Extra chocolate chips
  • Flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Roll and Cut Puff Pastry: Lightly flour a clean surface and gently roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth any creases. Cut the pastry into 4 equal rectangles for individual crookies.
  3. Add Filling: Place about 2 tablespoons of chocolate chip cookie dough in the center of each puff pastry rectangle.
  4. Shape Pastry: Fold and shape each rectangle around the cookie dough into a crescent or roll shape. Seal the edges by pinching or tucking them underneath to enclose the dough securely.
  5. Prepare for Baking: Arrange the shaped crookies on the prepared baking sheet. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops to give them a beautiful golden finish. Optionally, sprinkle extra chocolate chips or flaky sea salt on top for added flavor and texture.
  6. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 20–22 minutes until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed up beautifully.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the crookies to cool slightly before serving. The centers will remain deliciously gooey and warm.

Notes

  • If the dough becomes too soft during shaping, chill the assembled crookies in the refrigerator for 10 minutes before baking to help maintain their shape.
  • For a croissant-style version, cut the puff pastry into triangles and roll the cookie dough inside each triangle.
  • These crookies are best enjoyed warm for the gooey center and flaky pastry experience.
