Description

This easy Crockpot Bread recipe allows you to bake a soft, delicious homemade loaf without using an oven. With simple ingredients like all-purpose flour, active dry yeast, and olive oil, this slow cooker bread is perfect as a side dish or snack. The bread is cooked gently in a crockpot for a tender crumb, and finishing it under the broiler adds a golden crust.

Ingredients

Scale

Dry Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Other

  • parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy to ensure the yeast is active.
  2. Make Dough: Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the bowl, then mix until a rough dough forms. Transfer to a lightly floured surface.
  3. Knead Dough: Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic, which develops gluten for proper bread texture.
  4. Shape Loaf: Shape the dough into a round loaf, preparing it to fit comfortably inside the crockpot.
  5. Prepare Crockpot: Line the bottom of a 6-quart crockpot with parchment paper to prevent sticking and place the shaped dough inside.
  6. Cook Bread: Cover with the lid and cook on high for 2 to 2.5 hours until the bread is cooked through and the internal temperature reads 190°F. The bread top will remain pale.
  7. Optional Broiler Finish: For a golden crust, remove the bread and place it under the broiler for 2–3 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.
  8. Cool and Serve: Let the bread cool on a wire rack before slicing to allow the crumb to set properly.

Notes

  • You can add herbs, cheese, or garlic to the dough for extra flavor.
  • If using instant yeast, there is no need to proof—just mix it directly with the dry ingredients.
  • This recipe works best in a standard 5–6 quart crockpot.
