Ingredients
Scale
Wonton Strips
- 1 package Wonton wrappers (Approximately 12 ounces, found in the refrigerated section)
- ½ teaspoon Salt (Adjust based on taste preferences)
- Optional seasonings: Garlic powder, onion powder, or cayenne pepper to taste
For Frying
- 2-3 cups Vegetable oil (For frying, can also use canola oil)
For Serving
- Sweet and sour sauce, soy sauce, or spicy dipping sauce
Instructions
- Prepare Workspace: Gather all ingredients and necessary tools such as a deep frying pan, thermometer, slotted spoon, and paper towels, ensuring your kitchen is ready for frying.
- Cut Wonton Wrappers: Stack the wonton wrappers and cut them into thin strips approximately ½ inch wide, aiming for uniformity for even cooking.
- Heat Oil: Pour 2-3 cups of vegetable oil into the frying pan and heat over medium-high heat until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C), using a thermometer to monitor the temperature.
- Season Strips: Toss the wonton strips with salt and any optional seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, or cayenne pepper for extra flavor before frying.
- Fry Wonton Strips: Carefully place the seasoned wonton strips into the hot oil in small batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each batch for 2-3 minutes until the strips turn golden brown and crispy, stirring occasionally for even frying.
- Drain Excess Oil: Remove the fried wonton strips using a slotted spoon and transfer them onto paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
- Cool & Serve: Allow the strips to cool slightly before serving. Serve them with your choice of dipping sauces such as sweet and sour sauce, soy sauce, or spicy dipping sauce, or use as a crunchy garnish for salads and soups.
Notes
- Be careful not to overcrowd the frying pan to maintain oil temperature and ensure even frying.
- Adjust seasoning to taste; adding spices enhances the flavor profile.
- Use a thermometer to maintain the oil at 350°F for perfect crispiness without burning.
- Store leftover wonton strips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days to keep them crispy.
- For a healthier version, consider baking the strips at 400°F for 8-10 minutes until crispy.
