Description

This BBQ Brisket Sandwich is a hearty and flavorful main course combining tender shredded or sliced beef brisket coated in rich barbecue sauce, served on toasted brioche buns with optional cheddar cheese, crisp coleslaw, and tangy pickles. Perfect for using leftover brisket or smoked meat, it’s a satisfying Southern-inspired American classic that can be quickly prepared on the stovetop for a delicious, comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds cooked beef brisket (shredded or sliced)
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (plus extra for serving)
  • 6 brioche or sandwich buns
  • 1 cup coleslaw (optional, for topping)
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Pickles for serving

Instructions

  1. Warm the brisket: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the cooked shredded or sliced beef brisket. Stir in 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce, coating the brisket evenly, and cook until heated through, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Toast the buns: While the brisket warms, lightly toast the brioche or sandwich buns either in a toaster or on a separate skillet to add a slight crispness and prevent sogginess.
  3. Assemble the sandwiches: Place a generous portion of the sauced brisket on the bottom half of each toasted bun. If desired, lay a slice of cheddar cheese on top of the brisket to melt slightly from the heat.
  4. Add toppings and finish: Top the brisket and cheese with 1 to 2 tablespoons of coleslaw and a few pickles for crunch and acidity. Drizzle with additional barbecue sauce to taste. Cover each sandwich with the top bun and serve warm immediately.

Notes

  • This recipe works well with leftover smoked brisket or brisket prepared in a slow cooker.
  • For an extra flavorful touch, brush the buns with butter before toasting.
  • Serve alongside potato salad, fries, or baked beans to make a complete and satisfying meal.
  • Adjust barbecue sauce quantity according to your preferred sauce-to-meat ratio and sweetness level.
  • Coleslaw and cheese are optional but add great texture and flavor contrast.
