Description

These Banana Bread Brownies combine the moist, fruity flavor of banana bread with the rich, fudgy texture of brownies. Topped with a luscious browned butter frosting, they make a perfect dessert or snack that’s easy to prepare and irresistible to eat.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownies

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 cup)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Frosting

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, browned
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare the Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch or 9×13-inch baking pan depending on how thick you want your brownies.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth and well combined.
  3. Add Sour Cream, Eggs, Vanilla, and Bananas: Mix in the sour cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and mashed bananas, making sure everything is fully combined.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to maintain a tender texture.
  5. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before frosting to ensure the frosting sets properly.
  7. Make the Frosting: In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and cook it for about 4–5 minutes until it turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  8. Mix Frosting Ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together the browned butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of milk. Add more milk as needed to reach a spreadable consistency.
  9. Frost the Brownies: Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled banana brownies.

Notes

  • For added texture and flavor, fold in 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips into the batter before baking.
  • These banana bread brownies store well in the refrigerator and often taste even better the next day as flavors meld.
