Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana (mashed)
- 1/2 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
- 1 egg
- 1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour (or oat flour for gluten-free)
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1–2 tbsp water (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, mash the ripe banana thoroughly, then add the natural peanut butter and egg. Mix until the combination is smooth and well incorporated.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the whole wheat (or oat) flour and rolled oats into the wet mixture until a thick dough forms. Adjust the dough consistency by adding 1–2 tablespoons of water if it seems too dry, aiming for a pliable but non-sticky dough.
- Shape Sticks: Roll the dough into thin logs or sticks approximately 4–5 inches in length. You can also shape them into bones or rounds based on your preference.
- Arrange and Bake: Place the sticks on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them slightly apart. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until they become firm and lightly golden.
- Cool and Texture Adjustment: For a chewier texture, remove the sticks from the oven and let them cool on the tray. For a crunchier finish, turn off the oven and leave the sticks inside for an additional 30 minutes before cooling completely.
Notes
- Always use peanut butter that is free of xylitol, which is toxic to dogs.
- Store the treats in an airtight container for up to 1 week, or freeze for longer shelf life.
- You can shape the dough into bones or rounds instead of sticks if you prefer.
