Description

These homemade Baked Fish Sticks are a healthier and tastier alternative to store-bought versions. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, they are perfect for a family-friendly meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Fish Sticks:

  • 1 pound white fish fillets (such as cod or tilapia), cut into strips
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup regular breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Nonstick cooking spray or olive oil spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare breadcrumb mixture: In a shallow bowl, combine panko, regular breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Set up coating stations: Place the flour in a second shallow bowl, and the beaten eggs in a third.
  4. Coat the fish strips: Dip each fish strip first in flour, then in egg, and finally coat it thoroughly in the breadcrumb mixture.
  5. Bake the fish sticks: Arrange the coated fish sticks on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops with nonstick cooking spray. Bake for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy on the outside and flaky inside.
  6. Serve: Serve immediately with tartar sauce, ketchup, or lemon wedges.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, place the fish sticks on a wire rack set over the baking sheet while baking.
  • You can use gluten-free breadcrumbs if needed.
  • These also work well in the air fryer at 400°F for 10–12 minutes.
