Description

These Asian Chicken Wonton Tacos are a delightful fusion appetizer featuring seasoned ground chicken and crisp vegetables wrapped in wonton wrappers, fried to a golden crisp. They offer a perfect blend of savory flavors with a hint of sweetness from the dipping sweet chili sauce, making them ideal for parties or casual dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • ½ pound ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • ½ cup shredded carrots
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Tacos

  • 1 package wonton wrappers
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Sweet chili sauce, for serving
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the skillet: Preheat a large skillet over medium heat to prepare for cooking the chicken mixture.
  2. Cook the chicken mixture: Add ground chicken, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, and minced ginger to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  3. Brown the chicken: Cook the chicken mixture, breaking it up with a spoon, until the chicken is fully cooked and no longer pink.
  4. Add vegetables: Add shredded cabbage, shredded carrots, and chopped green onions to the skillet.
  5. Season: Season the mixture with salt and pepper to your taste.
  6. Cook vegetables: Continue cooking for another 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are slightly softened but still crisp.
  7. Heat oil for frying: In a separate skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat to prepare for frying the wonton wrappers.
  8. Fill wonton wrappers: Place a small spoonful of the chicken and vegetable mixture onto the center of each wonton wrapper.
  9. Shape tacos: Fold the wrapper in half to create a taco shape and press the edges firmly to seal them closed.
  10. Fry the tacos: Fry the filled wonton wrappers in batches for 2-3 minutes on each side until they are golden brown and crispy.
  11. Drain excess oil: Remove the fried tacos from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  12. Repeat frying: Continue filling and frying the remaining wonton wrappers with the chicken mixture until all are cooked.
  13. Serve: Serve the Asian Chicken Wonton Tacos hot with sweet chili sauce for dipping.
  14. Garnish: Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves before serving for added aroma and color.

Notes

  • To ensure the wonton tacos stay crispy, do not overcrowd the pan while frying.
  • You can substitute ground chicken with ground turkey or pork if desired.
  • For a spicier kick, add a dash of sriracha or chili flakes to the chicken mixture.
  • Wonton wrappers can be purchased fresh or frozen; thaw frozen wrappers before use.
  • If you prefer a lighter version, try baking the filled wonton tacos at 375°F for 8-10 minutes instead of frying.
